well, actually it's three!
that top one is a meyer lemon...
and this one is a persian lime:
and this one, a kaffir lime:
i've had them for only a week and they are growing!
m thinks
they don't have a chance.
:)
i ordered them from
four winds growers and i couldn't be happier.
these little organically grown trees popped vibrantly out of their traveling boxes and made themselves right at home. i saw new growth on all of them within 2 days.
(oh, did i forget to mention that in my exuberance i fertilized them too soon and then had a little yellowing and leaf curl & drop - nevermind, four winds helped me with that too.)
wish us all luck!
I recently started work with a florist (my 2nd so far) and I take care of plants in some pretty high end apt. buildings. I'm terrified that I will kill them.
ReplyDeleteBest of luck to you!!!!!
SOOOOOO jealous. Been wanting a lemon and lime for years.. tiny little house, plant-killing me. Let us know how it goes!
ReplyDeleteGood luck.
ReplyDeleteVery jealous indeed. If we don't kill our fig and blueberries that we have ordered this year, that's next. They seem to be a bit pricier so we're waiting until we are more confident). We'll "be watching you."
ReplyDeleteThe problem with growing trees inside your home is that the humidity is low and therefore the trees can not keep enough moisture in their leaves. Make sure you midst regularly and try to keep them away from any heat or air conditioning vents. And don't let the soil dry out, baby trees will not recover from dry roots.
ReplyDeleteIf you are in NYC I assume they'll spend some time indoors. I second what Michelle said, make sure they get humidity especially during the winter. If you take them outside in the spring/summer, make sure you keep an eye out for pests in the winter. A nasty case of mites or scale will kill them pretty quickly. That being said, if you have a balcony or a yard to put them in for the warm months, do it, They'll be really happy.
ReplyDeleteGood luck, citrus is wonderful!! I have a Meyer Lemon tree and we just got a Cara Cara orange tree. There is nothing like picking your own fresh fruit!
everyone - thanks for the good lucks.
ReplyDeletemichelle & mimi - thanks for the tips. i am going to move them out on a balcany for the warmer months. and i will be mindful to keep them misty inside.
Yay! Tigress and the three dwarfs!
ReplyDeleteI want a greenhouse so that I can have citrus. I've tried before just doing them in and out of the house and something always comes up and I leave it out to long or forget to water or weird bugs get on them. Hope you have better luck. The main thing to remember is to baby them and don't neglect them.
