this is going to be a very warm and fuzzy post.



this award has been passed around the blogosphere from bloggers to fellow bloggers whom they admire. it is with great pleasure that i accept mine from kate at hipgirls guide to homemaking (who's blog i admire i may add, and if she didn't just award me with this, then she would be accepting one from me right about now)

but i can't just hand it back now, can i?

ok, let me get to the easy one first:

and my nominees for the beautiful blogger award are:

1. susy at chiot's run - she posts daily(!) on gardening, conscious food consumption, cooking, crafting and musings in between. her photos are to die for and drinking my first cup of tea each morning while reading susy's post is starting to feel like breakfast with an old pal. her posts are most often thought-provoking and informative, and always engaging. she's like the ethicurean with personality - and kick ass photos. plus, her husband knits - what could be cooler than that?

2. nikki at rufus and clementine - this is a newly discovered blog for me and i just love nikki's off the wall humor & wacky ways (i mean that in a very good way nikki!). what i'm tryin' to say is...it's totally my skool. she puts a spring in my step and a twinkle in my eye, and what can i say? it's worlds better than a limp and a sty, no? i can't help but wish she called it rufus and chaka khan tho, but i'm sure that's just my thang...

3. jenna at cold antler farm - this girl is amazing. a young go-it-alone homesteader in rural vermont dreaming of - and working toward - a place of her own one day. with a white barnyard fence of course. she's got guts, and wisdom beyond her years. following the chronicle of her life is inspiring and heartwarming. i can't help but cheer her on. plus the photos of her farm animals are so damn cute - a cast of characters indeed!

4. ashley at small measure - i think if i lived near her in NC, ashley and i would be fast friends. her blog is the perfect mix between living the country good-life, sleek and homey design, and generation y coolness. her voice, easy and sure footed, has a pulse lowering effect. which is a very good thing for this not-wanna-be but have-to-be sometimes cityslicker (me). i cannot wait until her books on homemade living are on the shelves!

5. doris and jilly cook - ok, these two ladies, er, goats are preserving machines! one in philly, one in rural indiana, they get down with their produce sealing it up for the year ahead. there's a lot of good advice here, and good recipes. not just on picklin' and jammin' - these girls are at it with cheesin,' freezin' and everything in betweenin' (i had to). making things seem easy is the name of their game.

6. kaela at local kitchen - kaela not only offers fresh, seasonal and inventive recipes, it's obvious that her blog is a tool to organize her local 'foodshed' and her thoughts on eating locally. becoming locavore, i find, is made up of a series of choices...made daily, weekly, monthly, until a lifestyle is carved. finding like minds along the way is essential. kaela's blog is down to earth, practical, honest, and her mustard making skillz are unsurpassed as far as i can tell.

7. gen at consider the pantry - discovering gen was like discovering a little gem. i like to read her blog, i like to look at her blog...and the girl can jam! quirky and witty, her site feels (imo) very much of montreal, a city that i love. both her recipes and her 'semi-weekly jar-world' - a round-up of all things jar related - are very well curated. she doesn't post as often as some, but when a new post pops up in my google reader it's a happy day!


oh gawd, now i have to say 7 interesting things about moi.



ugh!

(i tried to think of things i haven't mentioned before - because i know all y'all have scoured and memorized everything - right?)

:)

1. i'm going to have a cow - someday. for the half of the year that we are up in the berkshires, and every time we are there in between, we drink raw milk from our neighboring farmer's gorgeous jerseys. i dream of milking my own cow, and a couple of goats, and egging a few chickens too...someday my farm will come!

2. our marriage ceremony was a 2 1/2 hour traditional fire ceremony in a 1200 year old shiva temple in udaipur, india. the entire ceremony was in sanskrit and the only attendees were the holy man who married us, the 'wedding planner' (his name was faruk) a photographer, the 3 shiva devotees that lived at the temple, and monkeys. srsly.

3. i've been on a lot of runways in my life - both on heels and on wheels...the heels not so anymore, the wheels i plan to do much more of.

4. i donate regularly to heifer international. if you don't already know about it, please click on that link. it is a great organization, with a philosophy i believe in and a long history of success. i plan to take one of their study tours one day - and get involved hands on.

5. i have a passion for scandinavian & dutch design and japanese fashion. nuff said? ok...comme des garcon, louise campbell, marimekko, hella jongurius, junya wantanabe, droog, tord boontje, marcel wanders, tao...there, i said it! now you know!

6. my dad has a dancing lady - tattooed on his right forearm and when i was little he would clench his fist, wiggle his wrist, flexing and unflexing his forearm muscle to make her dance. he'd tell me it was me. i now have shiva and shakti tattooed on my back that i can make dance...i won't explain how.

7. since i was a little girl i've always said before i die i would: a) write a book, and b) learn a second language - fluently. all i can say about this one is i hope i don't die tomorrow 'cause i got a long way to go on both accounts!
